4 Simple Tips To Move Your Self-Awareness To The Next Level

Introduction
Have you ever stumbled upon a know-it-all? My easy-going nature sure made me run into them a lot of times. The funniest was when two of them would’ve met. They usually couldn’t stand each other, always so sure of themselves.
My job was to mediate and witness the mutual aversion.
I always thought these little arguments were so silly, so easy to resolve. If only they were more aware of themselves!
Today I know I was no different from them. I saw myself as the noble one, but in fact, I was constantly caught into other’s people’s dramas.
Now, how self-aware was that?
On paper, you can know everything, yet still get stuck in toxic relationships, like I used to. Or a job you hate. Or be unhappy in general.
The ability to look at yourself objectively is the key ingredient to self-growth. But self-awareness is a tricky process. 85 to 90% of society fail at it.
What are the most common blockages to self-awareness?
To answer, this question, let me first ask you this: how many people you know who can genuinely say “I am not self-aware?”. I don’t know many.
The reason is simple, yet contrary: you need to acknowledge what you don’t know. It’s like the amateur in any discipline. Take maths, for example. When you start with the basics, it’s alright. 2+2=4? No problem. You might even think you are pretty good at counting.
But when you get intermediate or advanced, you start realising how many nuances there are to maths, like imaginary numbers, for instance.
The same happens in life. It takes a mindful, objective look at your life, to realise something you didn’t know about yourself. And to even think there is something you aren’t noticing daily — it’s almost an art! No doubt, only a few commit themselves to it.
Growing self-awareness requires flexibility and humility. It needs you to stretch your ego.
And let me tell you, the ego is the most vulnerable of them all.
